"Go Tell Fire To The Mountain" (Lyf) 2011

La loro musica è "Heavy pop", sono quattro ragazzetti di Manchester (anche se la formazione è mutevole e spesso si ritrovano in sei sul palco) che dicono di voler essere molto più di una band e ci stanno anche riuscendo. Il disco d'esordio del collettivo Go Tell Fire To The Mountain è autoprodotto ed è stato registrato in una chiesa sconsacrata, gli intenti del World Unite! Lucifer Youth Foundation (nome del gruppo per esteso) sono i seguenti "Miriamo a unire più persone, miriamo a inondarvi di batterie dure e ritmate, di voci da vecchio cantautore americano ubriaco in una chiesa, chitarre e bassi penetranti, vi penetreremo nelle orecchie. Non ci accontentiamo di passare sulle radio di tutto il mondo."

Fatto sta che di curiosità attorno alla band se n'è creata molta, perchè si fanno vedere poco, zero interviste e gli unici che pagano il doppio ai loro concerti sono giornalisti e discografici. Ma veniamo alla musica, per cominciare organo a gò-gò, strumento che non mi hamai fatto impazzire e quindi la prima stranezza sta proprio nell'essermi appassionata così tanto a un disco dissipato di hammond. Il tutto diventa ancora più curioso se parliamo del risultato che ne viene fuori associando il più sacro degli strumenti (e del luogo di registrazione) alla più sfrontata delle attitudini ossia la hc. Di core in questo esordio ce n'è a esagerare, gli arpeggini post-rock di Evans Kati vanno dritti ai cori dei più romantici poi c'è il cantato, spesso a due voci, dissacrante, maleducato e nevrotico, uno sfogo che a tratti ci porta indietro agli At the Drive-in di "In casino out" o al presente dei nostrani Fine Before you Came.

Inni semplicemente melodici, come il pezzo che apre il disco ("LYF"), ballate sacre ("Spitting Blood") e mini suite ("Concrete Gold" e "Heavy Pop") fanno di questo disco uno degli esordi più interessanti dell'anno. Se parlare di pace e di fratellanza e non abbassare la testa alle leggi dell’industria musicale è hype,... la moda sta cambiando e io non me ne ero accorta.
